We went on our very first Disney Cruise last October.  We have been to WDW several times, but never Disneyland or a Disney Cruise.  This was a whole new experience for me.  I did miss getting up at the crack of dawn and being at the parks all day long until after the night show/parade.....but we will go again in 2013 when Fantasyland is open!

I think the highlight of the cruise for me was our day at Disney's private island Castaway Cay.  There is a character spot at Mount Rustmore which is Disney's version of Mt. Rushmore.  I thought it would be fun to re-create this into a mountain backdrop.

When I plan a 2 Page layout, I open a 12x24 mat on my Gypsy.

I put the mountain from Pop-Up Neighborhood sized to 11.50 x 7.23 and centered it.

I used the font from Mickey Font sized to 1.46.  I picked this size so that the word Rustmore would fill the page.

I opened another layer and put Mickey, Goofy, Pluto and Donald from Mickey Font on.  I included all of the layers.

Here are my heads!!  I flipped Mickey and Pluto so they face the opposite direction.

I cut out the mountain in silver cardstock and used my Brick Red and Vintage Photo to "rust up" my mountain.  I tore some extra strips of silver cardstock to add dimension.

I rusted up the character heads and then pop-dotted them onto the mountain.

I added some palm trees and leaves from Life Is A Beach.

I added a picture of the Disney Dream (from a postcard) to the ocean in the background.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you enjoy my project and tutorial.  I do have some Disney themed blog candy to share today.  You just need to leave me a comment here that has #1 your favorite kind of vacation (Disney, beach, camping, ski trip, etc) plus a favorite memory from one, #2 a way to contact you.  I will let Mr. Randy pick the winner on Tuesday the 22nd.

  2. Lori, you did a super job on this layout! I have never seen Mount RustMore but I am sure this is a perfect re-creation. My favorite kind of a vacation is a cruise.. There's something to do for everyone, including "nothing" if that is your schtick... And I don't have to cook or clean!

    Fondly,
    Ellen

  4. My #1 vacation is Disney World, hands down :)

A bad accident turned good on our last trip-- we were the last ones let in to see Pooh and Tigger in Animal Kingdom. However, going down the queue line, my daughter tripped and her face scraped the concrete. She was crying and bleeding. We got directions to the Disney doctor, and the man at the beginning of the queue told us to come back after getting her looked at. He'd have Pooh and Tigger wait for her. She got all checked out, patched up and cleaned up, and we headed back about 20 minutes later. Sure enough, everyone was still there, waiting for us. The nice cast member even gave Raileigh a special pin for being brave and Pooh and Tigger spent lots of time with her. It just reminded me what makes Disney so magical :)

  7. What a super lovely two page layout and of course at my favorite vaction spot which is anywhere that Disney is. I would love to a Disney cruise one day but for now and very happy just to be able to get away to Florida every couple of years. I love your ideal of using the larger matt with your gypsy for a two page layout and your Mount Rushmore is just awesome!

  8. Love your layout! Disney is our fav vacation spot. My son is working at WDW and we went in May for my birthday. We've never done the cruise but would love too!

My favorite memory will be this last trip where my two kids planned everything and let me be a pampered princess the whole trip!

  9. That is an awesome Layout. We've been toying with a disney cruise for sometime now, and just always seem to end up at WDW. We were supposed to go this Dec, but have waited to go when FantasyLand is completed too. My favorite Disney trip was my second one...I was pregnant our first, so our second I had my baby and my oldest came too as he didn't the 1st time. Having all 4 of my kids there was priceless!!

  10. Cute project. TFS.
I'd have to say Disney for my fav vacation spot.
My husband and I got married at 19 (32 yrs ago). We went to Disneyland every year until I got pregnant in 1988. We went a few times with our best friends until she passed in 1985. Those were wonderful times...
BUT I'd have to say that going there when our daughter was a little one was so magical. There is nothing like seeing things through the eyes of a child.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

  25. Cute, cute layout! Disney is always so much fun:) Married 42 years next month, our favorite vacation hands down was two years ago when we took a cruise on Carnival. We had never gone before and DH said he never would but when I signed on to a scrap booking cruise I knew he would not stay behind and I really didn't want my first cruise to be without him..
    Your layout is great!

  31. Great layout!!! Love the details and how you put it together. I have never been on a Disney cruise but sure would love to. I also love to be at Disney parks when they open till they close. My favorite kind of vacation would have to be a one week long vacation at Disney World (My happy place). My favorite Disney memory would have to be the time we took my daughter to Disney World for her fifth birthday. On the drive there we told her that mommy had to see a special doctor and that it was a little far. When we got Disney’s All Star Movie Resort her eyes where wide open and she said mommy this doctor looks a lot like Disney. Not until we open the door to our room did she realize where we really where. The joy on her face is something that I will always remember. Thank you for a chance to win some blog candy.
