Gypsy Queen

I am a self-appointed Gypsy Queen. I work very part-time at Michaels. I average 7 hours a week and three of those hours are before the store opens on Sundays. I offer free interactive demos for the Cricut and Gypsy 2-4 times a month. Our district does not offer classes right now, so this is my compromise. It gives people a chance to try before they buy!

I have about 20 lovely ladies who have attended at least one of my demos and have learned a ton about their Cricuts and Gypsys. I also have enabled several to purchase a Gypsy. I do not get commission, just the satisfaction of helping people learn how to use these wonderful toys!!

In March, Michaels held a competition to see which district sold the most Gypsys during the month. Not only did our district win, but my store sold the most!! Translation ~ I sold more Gypsys than any other Michaels in the US and Canada!!! I am proud to say that most of these purchasers have come to my demos and have learned how to use them too!!!

Soooo, I have decided to appoint myself a Gypsy Queen. I have changed my name tag at work accordingly. I am also making my Gypsy Challenge project this week in honor of my new title (which I will post tomorrow). MyaMagoo gave me this awesome crown to wear!!

Bowling Layout

My son is a freshman and lettered in Bowling. He is not interested in a letterman's jacket at this time, so I am scrappin' it!! He also received a certificate from his coach. I wasn't sure how I wanted to put it together because the certificate is so big. I decided to create a back drop for the certificate.

I welded the square from George to the letters and numbers from Doodletype. I used a cicle from George for the letter "O" and made three smaller circle finger holes in it. I cut out the letters and numbers in white. Sometims I weld the shadow of the letter to the shape then cut out the letters normal, but this time I wanted to cover the black background entirely.

I used paper I found at Archivers. My nearest Archivers is about a 25 minute drive and I only get there a couple of times a year.

Practical Scrappers Marker Challenge

This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is to make a card or layout and use markers. Now, I usually only use markers to journal. For this challenge, I embellished Santa's face and beard with some markers. I also used some stickles to give him some sparkle!

These photos are from our 2009 daycare party. We invite Santa to come each year and hope he is not too busy to stop by.

From my cricut, I used Winer Woodland for the font and Paper Doll Dress Up for Santa.

Thanks for looking!

Gypsy Challenge Hop & Skip

Pam at the Gyspy Chat forum at the cricut MB issued a challenge this week to kern two sets of images, one twice as much as the other. I tried several times to post a photo on the MB but was unsuccessful. Pam had a great visual of a shape (scalloped circle) with words cut out of the middle of the circle. She was not using the letters, but the negative image (what was left of the circle if you will).

I was having trouble with this as I wanted to use letters. I also wanted to make something I could use on a layout from my in box! Some of the letters had inside pieces that would be lost or would need to be glued down - YUCK! So, I thought of a different approach and wanted to share my visual. I was hoping it would inspire some others who, like me, were having a little trouble coming up with a design.

So here is my sample. This is not my project ~ I am still working on that in my head!! I welded my letters to the square. The word LOVE is kerned to 0.1 and the word YOU is kerned to 0.2. If I used this image, I could put a photo of a loved one on the square.

I hope this helps!

Flower Box from Sweet Treats

I am trying to use some of my newer cartridges ~ this box is from Sweet Treats. I sized up the box and flowers on my Gypsy and was able to fit everything on one mat. I used some 2-sided paper left over from my K&Co Valentine's Day paper pack and some brown ribbon and a green button.

I made three pink (2 dark and one light) flowers and crumpled them up. I fastened them to the front of the box with a brad. I covered up the brad with the lime green button.

I am challenging myself to make different projects ~ I tend to stick with layouts!!

Easter Buckets with Vinyl

I hosted Easter this year again. For our annual egg hunt, I bought plastic buckets at Michaels and cut out bunnies, chicks and eggs out of vinyl. I cut the pieces ahead of time and got them ready to stick down. I learned the hard way that clear contact paper does not work as well as transfer tape ~ it is way too sticky! I put the names on the buckets to prevent tearing, but I really wanted the kids to decorate their own buckets.

We added gems for eyes and added sparkle!! Of the eight children, my son was the only boy. My niece Sabryna was kind enough to pose for a photo with her newly decorated bucket!!

I hope you had a lovely Easter!!

Ribbon Holder

I used my Gypsy to make this ribbon holder thanks to SentimentalScrapper from the Cricut Message Board. You can visit her blog HERE for her instructions. Instead of sharing her file, she wrote out the instructions ~ which is great for me as I have not been able to locate the files I have downloaded!!! I need a live-in geek squad!

I love the way this looks and I can see just what ribbon I have and how much!!
