Under the Sea Book Fair Decor

This year, the Book Fair theme is Under the Sea.  They gave me a dark blue paper to make the window poster.  Well, the dark blue looked more like a dark sky to me so I decided to add a boat bottom!   I used some rolled white paper to make the boat form.  I trimmed kraft cardstock 3" wide in two lengths - 8 1/2" and 11".  I inked the edges with Vintage Photo ink and adhered them on top of the white paper with my ATG gun.  I trimmed the edges and adhered the boat to the poster.

I added the Under the Sea letters on the bottom and seaweed on each side.  I planned on adding other sea creatures but it was getting crowded and hard to read the words at the bottom.
I found the sea creatures on my Silhouette Cameo - most of them came from the Silhouette online store.  I cut some sea creatures 3" tall for our Media Specialist to use to decorate the library.
Tanner wanted a Nemo fish - this is the closest I was willing to make!!
I also make 4 menu posters for her to hang inside the school.  I wanted a sea creature holding a sub sandwich.  I used the crab and a hamburger.  I used the bottom bun for both the top and bottom of the roll.  I cut the hamburger patty out in pink to resemble ham.  I cut the pickles red for tomatoes.  I have to admit - creating the sandwich was almost as fun as making the boat!!
Here is the finished poster.  I tore light brown cardstock to look like sand.  I inked the bread with Vintage Photo ink.
I love making these decorations every year for our Book Fair!
I saw the poster in the front window at school today and had to add this picture!!

Fiesta Book Fair

It is that time again - The Book Fair at my son's school!

This year the theme is Fiesta!  I make one large sign, and three smaller signs to promote the event.  The school provides the large paper for the window sign and the large construction paper for the smaller signs.

I love volunteering my time this way - I get to be creative!!!

I started out searching my Gypsy as this is my third year making these signs and my first time since getting my cameo.  I did search in the Silhouette Store too!  I found some images I liked on both - so I used both!  A girl needs choices!!

I purchased this image from the Silhouette Store.  I cut it diagonally in order to make it as big as possible on a 12x12 mat.

I just moved the top layer into the picture, but I cut them out separately.

I also purchased these from the Sil Store - it is a banner.  I did not use the ribbon because my banner has more than 5 flags.  I cut these out in 4 different bright colors.

I used the font Wide Latin to size and cut out Book Fair.

The rest of the letters are cut from the font LD Mon Cherie and sized to 2.5 inches.

And from my Gypsy I used Fiesta for some images.  Fiesta is a digi cartridge that was a freebie the very last time I updated my Gypsy Girl, but it is available in Cricut Craft Room.

Here are the chili peppers.  I cut out 4 at a time.

I cut out maraccas.  I cut several colors of the layers so the Media Specialist can use them on other signs as well.

I cut out some pinatas too.  I made one at 11.5 inches to include on the large sign.  The rest were smaller to use on other signs as well.

I make 3 small signs promoting Blimpie  night including the menu.

The large sign is made using large rolled paper from the school.  This is on my 6' table.  I kept it simple so parents can read from their cars as they drop off their children.

I did add some orange circles to the pinata since there was a lot of red!

Get ready to Fiesta!!!

Story Laboratory Book Fair

Our Elementary School Book Fair is coming up.  I made signs for the school once again.

Last year the theme was Books on the Beach and you can see what I made HERE.

This year the theme is Story Laboratory (Reading Gives You Super Powers) and the librarian wanted a Robot theme.  She really wanted beakers and test tubes too!

I made a 6' wide window sign (above) and three smaller signs for Blimpies Night (below).

I started out with my Gypsy and Robotz cartridge.

I picked out two robots and sized them and their layers to 5 inches for the smaller signs.

I used cardstock that Tanner's teacher gave me when she cleaned out her stash to cut them all out. I love when things come full circle!!!

When I start the designing process, I will put items on my mat that I think I want to use.  That way they are all in once place.  I can later move them to another mat and re-size them.  Some of the images never get used, but stay there in case I change my mind....

The open book is from A Child's Year.  The stack of books is from Locker Talk.  I did not use the Big Bang Theory symbol (Uranium), but it is also from Chemistry Icons.

I also found these images from Chemistry Icons (CCR Exclusive).

Here are my 5" robots.  I think they turned out cute!!

I put a cape on the robot because the sub theme is Reading Gives You Super Powers.  I thought it was cute, but did not really fit the Lab theme I created.

Here are the beakers on the small posters.  They are sized to 2.18 inches.

I cut out the letters from Robots sized to 3" and 2.5".  I used the negative cuts to line up my letters.  I ran the letters and numbers through my 5" Xyron machine and stuck them on the poster.

I gently pulled up the negative cuts.

I re-sized the robots to 11 inches.

I made these tables out of brown cardstock.  The long table is two pieces of 3x12 cardstock glued side by side.  The legs are 1.5 x 6 strips tucked under the table top.

The small table is 3x8 cardstock.

The laptop and stack of books are from Locker Talk.  The laptop is sized to 3.43 inches.  The stack of books is sized to 2.69 inches.  The open book is from A Child's Year and is sized to 2.23 inches.

The test tubes, beakers and microscope are from Chemistry Icons which is a CCR exclusives that I got free on my Gypsy last summer (have been afraid to update Gypsy because I will lose all of these awesome cuts)!  I sized the beakers to 3.18 inches.

This sign will hang in the front window of the school.

I enjoy sharing my time and talent with the school where the teachers share so much of their time and talents with our students!!
