I Wanna Hold Your Hand

This week at Frosted Designs begins our new Challenge!

It is my turn to host and building on my Journaling and Handwriting themes, my challenge was Handwriting +1.  The +1 is ink!

 Last week I talked about the importance of a Title - Why have one and some ideas for titles.  This photo is one of my daycare babies holding my finger.  I think the photo is just precious.  I did NOT want the title to be Pull My Finger!!!  I used I wanna Hold your Hand instead!!

I used Bubblegum Pink Dylusions ink to color my Studio Calico wood hearts.  I colored my Keyer Craft wood flags with Juniper Acrylic Paint Dauber. 

I also used the Bubblegum Pink to spritz the background of my paper.  I may have gone a little overboard!!

I used this fun font from Sandee at Frosted Designs called Bar Lettering.  You can see how HERE.  Sandee used graph paper.  I used my pencil to practice on my layout before I used my Zig marker. 

Here it is up close.  I have to say that I did not like this at first and wanted to scrap my layout - but if I am challenging you to get out of your box, I need to get out of mine too!!! 

Here is a close up of the wood flags and hearts I cut from my Basic Grey paper.  I just love the colors in this paper from the Shades of Spring kit! 

I tucked a heart behind the top corner of the photo and added a little more handwriting and a wood heart! 

I decided to use the bold side of the Zig marker for HOLD and HAND and added a heart to the D! 

I matted the photo with a piece of burlap that I sprayed with Bubblegum Pink ink!

Gratitude Jar (Sassy)

I am so excited to be featured at She's A Sassy Lady today!!  

I decorated a Gratitude Jar for a good friend.  I have a friend who is a scrapbooker, but she doesn't own an electronic die cutter.  I cut out things for her all the time when we go to crops together as well as share my extra cuts.  I never mind making cuts for her because she doesn't ask too often.

She bought this jar at the beginning of this year to make a Gratitude Jar.  Her word for 2014 is Gratitude and she is including her family - which is super cool!!

The jar was blank and she asked me for my input.  I came up with a few designs on my cameo:

With a teenage son, the middle option was quickly ruled out!!!  The option on the right was too tall.  In order for the letters to look good on the option on the left, I added a greenery branch/wheat top to fill the extra space where the second "t" was.  I really liked it once I got it together!! 

I cut it out of black vinyl to match the chalkboard sticker on the opposite side.

I did a similar jar in 2013 but it was for me not my entire family.  This may be great for us next year!!  What are you grateful for?  I am grateful today for the sun shining, my son's arm is healing nicely from his surgery, and my husband is not travelling this week!!!

You Are My Sunshine

I found this piece at the Goodwill store.  It used to be baby decor.  I peeled off the sticker and sanded the front.  I painted two coats black spray paint on it.  I sanded the edges and added this phrase from the Silhouette Online store in white vinyl.

I really like how it turned out - it reminds me of a chalk board!!  This will look great in my daycare!!!

Teacher Appreciation Posters

Today is the start of Teacher Appreciation at my son's elementary school.  I made a poster for my son's teacher Ms. Vaughan as well as the Specal Education Teachers - one is a daycare family of mine.  Our theme this year was Outer Space.  This theme was very hard for me because I could only think of a couple of ideas.  I used my Cameo to come up with these two posters:

I wrote the name of each student on an alien.  I got this idea from Pinterest.  Tanner loves Ms. Vaughan, even though she was his third choice for a teacher at the beginning of the school year.  She has a 2nd grade son so she can really relate to her 2nd grade class. 

This was the 100th Day of School - Ms. Vaughan made 100 pancakes!

Tanner wanted me to cut out a huge Buzz Lightyear for this poster, but I convinced him the planets would be better!!!  I love Buzz but there are a ton of layers!!

I like to volunteer my time and crafts every chance I get at Tanner's school.  This is my favorite thing to make!!!  Our teachers are wonderful and give 150% to the students!!

What's In A Title?

Today I am featured on the Frosted Designs Blog!  Telling Your Story Through Scrapbooking is a monthly series I share.  I offer information and guidance to help scrapbookers from Beginners to Advanced to Haven't scrapbooked in a while scrapbookers!!!  I hope that I can inspire you to create your stories!!

Last month we talked about the Joys of Journaling.  Today we are talking about Titles.

What is in a title?  Well, I know I have several titles:  Wife, Mom, Sister, Sister-in-Law, Daughter-in-Law, Aunt, Miss Lori, Friend, Neighbor, Baseball Mom, Cousin, Instructor - you get the picture!!  Each situation calls for a different title, just like each scrapbook layout (story) calls for a different title.  You need to ask yourself ~ How do you want to title your story?

Take any photo (or set of photos from one event) and you can use several different titles.  The title depends on how you want to tell the story of this/these photo(s).  If your photos need several pages to tell the story, only the first page needs a title.  Here is an example of several titles for a birthday layout:

If you can't think of a title that fits the photo or the space you have left on the layout, it is time to get out of your box!!

Titles can be long or short, funny or serious, borrowed or original.  Titles can be a single word or headline, a mini headline or a set of title and subtitle.  There are no rules, just guidelines!!

Titles can be quotes, movie or song titles, song lyrics, a question, or a play on words.  I find inspiration everywhere for titles:  Pinterest, TV, magazine articles, nursery rhymes, stores - you name it!  I keep a notepad with me for journaling notes and title notes because you never know where inspiration will hit!!!

The photo I am using today is a slefie of Tanner and I at Disney last fall while riding the Dumbo Ride.  He loves when we take selfies together!!

I had many thoughts about what my title could be for this layout - Selfie Buddies, Riding Dumbo (again), Best Day Ever, I adore his smile...I cherish his hugs...I admire his heart...but most of all.....I love that he is my son, and So there is this boy....he stole my heart....he calls me Mom.

Last month I posted about journaling and using your own handwriting on your layouts (HERE) and I wanted to add my handwriting to my title this month.  I chose the last option so I could handwrite everything except He Calls Me Mom.

For my layout today, I used Heidi Swapp Teal colorshine to color my background paper.  I used Home Tweet Home - Word Play doublesided paper from ADORNit ~from the Love is in the Air kit.  I cut two pieces to layer under my photo.  I used the flowers and Tim Holtz Picked Raspberry Distress Paint to paint the edges of my papers and photo from A Moment In Time kit.  I used Picked Raspberry Distressed Ink Pad from the Sades of Spring kit. I cut "He Calls Me Mom" and the xoxo border with my cameo.

I wrote my handwritten part on a scrap paper so I can make sure it will fit on my page.  I decided not to write it all on one line because it would stick out too far.  Instead I wrote each segment on a line.

Fun (Birthday Party) Layout for Let's Scrap

We have a new Sketch Challenge at Let's Scrap starting today!!  I am finishing my second term as a Design Team Member next month which means we have a DT Call going on right now!!!  Click the link above for more information!!

I created a layout of my niece's birthday party.  She invited her school friends and her cousins - I love how close my boys are to their cousins!!  I have thee boys (ages 24, 19 and 8) and three neices (ages 12, 12 and 8).  Sophie turned 12 and invited my youngest to her party.  We surprised her with the older two!!

I modified the sketch on the left for my layout - I moved the triangles to the other side of the pictures and added a flower instead of the triangles.  I moved the title to the second page.  I really love this 2-pager but I did not have enough pictures for both pages. 

The paper and chipboard are from Frosted Designs.  The paper is Glitz Design - love the bright colors!  I used stamp pad ink to color the flowers and "Fun" pink and the banner orange.

I cut SOPHIE out of vinyl using my cameo and adhered the letters to the banner.  I used glossy accents to adhere the chippies to the paper as well as the twine to the banner. 

After I adhered the flowers to the layout, I added orange stickles to the centers. 

It is hard to see, but I added a thin layer of stickles to the "Fun" for some sparkle! 

I added a journaling sticker to the bottom.

This layout ended up much better than I envisioned!!!  The pictures were pretty dark and I did not have any papers that matched the colors in the picture exactly - problem solved with this fun and colorful paper!!!
