Members Day at the Zoo Layout

This week starts a new sketch challenge over at Let's Scrap!!!

I live near the Omaha Zoo - it was recently rated the #1 Zoo in the world.  That just amazes me as I go there all the time and probably take it for granted.  Once a year they have Members Day.  On Members Day, you can do many hands on activities, watch animal feedings and enrichments, and go on behind the scenes tours.

This year was the first time I have been behind the scenes in the Giraffe House.  We got to walk on an inside cat walk and come face to face with them!

Tanner brought his best bud Jadon.  It was fun to show Jadon upstairs in the Aquarium for his first time!!
Here is the sketch I used.  I chose to use both pages as I had several photos.
We have a Kimodo Dragon at our zoo right now.  He typically is lying around so I got excited to see him walk around.  Fun Fact - Kimodo Dragons walk around when they have to urinate!!  If you look closely you might notice that....

I added tram tickets to the layout.
Here are Jadon and Tanner looking down at the baby giraffe.  How funny is that?!?

I trimmed the animal encounter off of a class schedule.  I thought it was perfect for this photo!
I chose Up Close and Personal for my title as we were just that with the Giraffes!!

It was tempting to pet them or feed them, but the zoo keepers did not let us!
Tanner loves animals and loves visiting the zoo.  We get an annual zoo pass and go as often as we can.

I used:
Bo Bunny paper from the Somewhere in Time Collection
Cameo for my words

Christmas Eve at the Zoo

Yesterday I shared our Christmas Eve-Eve layouts HERE.

We spent Christmas Eve at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo.  My sister-in-law and niece met us there.  The animals were very active and even though it was cold outside, it was so much fun!

I used some page layout designs from the Silhouette online store that had cut outs for the photos.  I thought the photos looked lost, so I created a frame by cuting out a rectangle around the cut out windows in black cardstock.  I adhered the pieces on top - I think the photos look better with the black background!
Here is a re-creation of my frame.
I purchased this title from the Silhouette online store and added the Santa hats!!
I cut this title out using a font on my computer.  I used lime green and red to match the pictures.

Our next stop was the Aquarium:
This layout was featured in a Penguin Blog Hop HERE.  We got to the Aquarium just in time for lunch!!
I love watching the penguins when people are with them!
I used some Dylusions Ink to spritz my background paper.  These papers are from Frosted Designs - I just love them!!
The next page is:
The second half of the Aquarium is under water.  We love going through the Shark Tank - we walk through a tunnel at the bottom of the tank.
Of course I had to add a shark!!!
Tomorrow I will have Christmas Morning layouts on my blog - hope you join us!!

At The Zoo (Let's Scrap)

If you are looking for my Baby Mini Album that is featured at The Buckle Boutique, please go HERE.

Today I am featured at Let's Scrap!  Let's Scrap is a ning site with tons of talented scrapbookers and cardmakers from all over the world!  We have weekly sketches and challenges - I have created so many layouts since I joined the Design Team in September!!!  You should stop by and check it out!!

This week, the sketch challenge is below:

I just received a new pack of paper from Frosted Designs - Thataway Collection from Studio Calico.  I really liked the patterns with my zoo theme!!

I used my Zink Happy printer to print photos from my cell phone - which worked out great as I forgot my "good" camera!!  I love the borders and ability to type words on the pictures!!  Note the 5x7 photo is a mosaic puzzle!!  This is the Zink BIG app!

I used some Studio Calico stickers and die cuts to embellish my layout and create my title.

I used twine (with a couple of knots) across the border on the bottom of my page.

I am really outside of my box with this layout - no cameo or cricut at all!!!!

Hello Bear!

Welcome to the Wild Side!!!

We are walking on the WILD side and hope you join us!!

In this blog hop you will see lots of animals along the way.  You should have come from HERE.  If you found me first, hop on over to LISA'S BLOG so you don't miss anything.

There is also some blog candy, so make sure you comment along the way too.  Information about blog candy is at the end of this post.

We live near Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo.  It is an amazing zoo if you ever are close to Omaha or Council Bluffs, IA be sure to stop on over!!  Once a year, they have special events for Members Only.  We were waiting for the Jaguar training session and behind us was bear canyon (which is down a big hill from the Jaguar exhibit.  A black bear climbed up the tree to see what was going on behind him - which put him close to eye level with the crowd!!

You can see here just how close the bear was to us!!!

I took a couple of photos with my cell phone (did not bring the BIG camera this trip) and was kind of freaked out!!!

Of course I had to make a layout!

I started with some images from the Silhouette Online store and my cameo:

I used the bear shape as a background piece and cut it out of black cardstock.

I used a font from my computer for "hello BEAR" and the border Wild Animals and cut them out in brown cardstock.

I used these two leaf cuts and cut them out in two different green cardstock papers.

Here is a sneak at my title and the leaves.  I layered the leaves and let them hang off the page.  I trimmed the edges.

Here is the bear peeking out from behind the photo!

I got a new toy - a Zink!!  It is an inkless mini printer that prints photos from your cell phone and tablet.  I forgot my big camera and before my Zink I hardly printed off any pictures (successfully anyway) from my cell.

These 4x6 photos were posted to FaceBook, then copied and saved to my computer and sent in to Shutterfly.  The print quality of the 4x6 is not as good as the pictures I took with my Nikon D40 and printed from Shutterfly.  It is such a pain to get these printed off!!!

And......with my Zink I may be able to actually do Project Life!!!  I take several pictures every day with my cell phone, but not my big camera!

I hope you had fun visiting my black bear friend at the zoo!!!  Now onto the Blog Candy!!!!

Zoo Fun

Here is my take on the LID 2-page sketch for this week. I turned the first page to fit the orientation of photos I had. I used my cricut carts Opposites Attract (for the title) and Walk In My Garden for the leaves.
